Sony 28mm F2: (Best budget wide-angle lens for Sony A7iii)
FRAME LENS FOR SONY A7III FULL
I have ti stand corrected! I was talking about the 35mm loxia end not the 21mm.Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8: (Best wide-angle lens for Sony A7iii full frame) I didn't write down what f-stop I used, but I do think I did stop down as the stars are rounder.

This was done with a tracking mount and consisted of 9 images ISO 200 and exposed for 30 sec each.

This is the result of stacking a number of images using a free SW app called Sequator. This time using a Sony A77ii, an APS-C camera. You can see problems in the corners.Īnother example using the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 lens. Also used a red filter which removed some amount of CA that might have been produced. The exposure time was too long, so trails can be seen. Also using a m4/3 camera so again using the best portion of the lens. I don't like using this lens for Astrophotography.Īnd here is an example using the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 lens. Take a look at the four corners and see how the stars are stretched away from the center. But I am not particularly happy with these result. This was actually done using a m4/3 camera, so the best portion of the lens is being used. Here is an example using the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. It really is personal preference as to which FL is the best for astro landscapes.

It really would make the most sense to find what focal length you prefer the look of the most and buy that one, since there are good choices your camera at each FL. Love the Loxia 21 though and some love ultra wide when it comes to stars for 14 you have the Samyang which you mentioned but also the much better Sigma 14, 1.8 and the not as good as the Sigma Art but better than the Samyang Loawa 15, 2.0ġ4/18/21/24 might all seem very close but in reality these are much different views of a night sky landscape. I imagine it is excellent for Astro given it's speed but have not seen any results from it.įocal length wise the 18 is probably where I would lean for 1 Prime. The 24mm lens is getting a little narrow for some. Loxia 21 at 2.8 is a great Astro lens (one of the very best) Maybe you have a bad copy of the Loxia 21 because I would strongly dispute that and so would many others. I would opt for the sony 24mm as well at this point. It is really hard to find a lens with zero coma and distortion.ĭo not get the 21 Loxia for the stars, it has got terrible coma. You will still see some coma and distortion in the corners, but it is not too bad. Since the stars are small, you will need to zoom in to see how the stars look. And I processed the image with DxO Prime Noise Removal. I used a full frame Sony A99 at an ISO of 1600 for this test, and used a 6 sec exposure time to minimize star trails. This works out to an aperture of 20.8mm which captures a lot more light than the 14mm lens. For example, here is an example of a single image using the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 lens, which I stopped down to f/2.4 to minimize coma and distortion. One more point, it is possible to do panoramas with astrophotography allowing a longer focal length to be used. Stopping down to f/2.8 produces 24 / 2.8 = 8.57mm aperture, and will still capture more light than the 14mm lens.Ĭomparing the two Samyang lenses to the Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 lens, I find that the Tamron outperforms the Samyang lenses when you compare coma and distortion. But wide open, the 24mm has some coma and distortion.

The 24mm / 1.4 = 17.14mm aperture and captures a lot more light. The main problem with the 14mm lens is that the size of the aperture is only 14mm / 2.8 = 5mm. I have the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 and 24mm f1.4. Astrophotography brings out things like coma and astigmatism that don't impact landscape photography. Landscape photography is relatively easy when compared to astrophotography. Please take a look at this site for ideas on lenses for astrophotography. What do you guys think? Any other lens recommendations? Out of all these options Zeiss 18mm seems to be the right fit for a good wide angle for landscape and astro as well. My budget would be not more than ~$1200-$1300. I moved from a Canon 80D and had a Rokinon 16mm f/2 for astro and absolutely loved it.
FRAME LENS FOR SONY A7III PLUS
I recently got into the Sony a7 world and I am looking for a landscape plus astro lens since I do not have a big budget to begin with.
